Using a secure mobile device to record patient observations in order to improve care and safety

Through the use of a mobile phone, with eObservations colleagues will be able to record patient observations and receive an up-to-date record of their health. This will also include the facility to alert doctors and nurses if a patient is deteriorating.

What is the eObservations service? In a nutshell, this new system is intended to replace paperwork by letting clinicians record their observations electronically. Using a mobile phone app, they will be able to calculate whether results are outside the normal range and, if so, this will alert a senior nurse or medic.

Making patients aware Due to the appearance of eObservations, patients may believe that our clinicians are simply using their mobile phones on the ward to message friends and use Facebook. If you have a question about the system, please ask a member of staff about it.
