Work has begun on a brand new Children’s Outpatients Department at Bassetlaw Hospital following a £278,000 investment.

Once completed, the new area will provide a dedicated space for Children’s Outpatients, enabling staff to deliver safe and effective care in a state-of-the-art setting.

Currently both Children’s and Adult Outpatients at Bassetlaw Hospital are run as a shared service. As part of the Trust’s commitment to having separate adult and children’s services, and understanding that the current facility could be improved, the Trust is investing in the service to ensure it meets  parents’ and children’s expectations, in addition to future demand.

The newly created space will be co-located to the, existing, Children’s Ward, improving clinical links between the two areas and allowing nursing teams to work across both, ultimately enhancing the care for younger patients.

Thanks to the investment, the new clinic space will also have cutting edge facilities and boast improved changing rooms for those patients who need extra assistance and equipment when getting in and out of clothing.

As part of a continued commitment to improving services for younger patients, the Trust will also be working with Sheffield Children’s Hospital, developing pathways of care to ensure that children and parents can access the right services when they need to.

In the coming weeks the Trust will be speaking to children, carers and parents to help design the look of the new Outpatients department, from wall coverings to furnishings to ensure that the area is as comfortable as possible for those younger patients who will be visiting.

Eki Emovon, Children and Families Care Group Director at the Trust, said:  “This investment will provide a significant improvement for our younger patients and reaffirms our commitment, as a Trust, to delivering high quality services for the people of Worksop.

“By creating a separate space, we hope to provide a better environment for our patients, as well as enhancing care across both Inpatient and Outpatient areas, developing our nursing teams so that they work efficiently and effectively across the two services.”

Building work to create the Children’s Outpatients department, which has its own reception, will cost £278,000 and is expected to be complete by late November 2016.
