Local residents looking to kick-start their career in the NHS were invited to Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) last week to find out what apprentice opportunities are available at the Trust.

Currently, DBTH has a number of apprentice posts available on all sites at Doncaster, Bassetlaw and Mexborough. Apprenticeships are available at Intermediate Level 2, Advanced Level 3 and Higher and Degree levels 4, 5 and 6, in the following areas:

  • Business Admin
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant
  • Healthcare Scientist
  • Healthcare Assistant
  • Pharmacy.

The recent open day attracted over 100 attendees, with presentations by the Recruitment team and Vocational Education Manager taking place on the hour throughout the day, with representatives from various departments on-hand to showcase their services and to answer any questions.

Present at the recruitment event, Holly Ridgeway-Bowyer, Medical Photographer at DBTH and former apprentice, said: “I began my apprenticeship in 2015 and was offered a job upon completion in 2017. As an apprentice I received lots of support and guidance, allowing me to develop skills which have led to a career in Medical Photography. If you are just finishing school or looking for a change of profession, I would definitely recommend applying for an apprenticeship.”

During her initial placement, Holly was shortlisted for Health Education England’s annual awards for her outstanding work as an Apprentice Clinical Photographer aiding the Trust’s Medical Photography team in capturing images of various conditions and procedures.

As a teaching hospital, the Trust is committed to providing top-notch placements, successfully recruiting over 100 apprentices in 2016/17. From Business Administrators to Pharmacy Technicians, there are lots of opportunities across the organisation’s three hospital sites in Doncaster, Bassetlaw and Mexborough to begin a career in health.

Karen Barnard, Director of People and Organisational Development at the Trust, said: “As one of the largest employers in the region, we are always looking to develop our future workforce. I sincerely hope local people, particularly those finishing education and weighing up their next steps, will think about joining the team as an apprentice, taking those first vital steps on the path to a career in the NHS.”

A number of posts are currently being advertised on www.jobs.nhs.uk. Applicants need to head to the website and search for the term ‘Apprentice’, selecting either Doncaster, Bassetlaw or Montagu as the location to view the listings and apply. For more information, contact dbth.recruitment@nhs.net.
