Local bike rider, Ben Campbell, has completed an 85 mile trip, raising almost £300 for the Chatsfield Suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) in memory of his late granddad, Kenneth.

The sponsored cycle took lace on earlier in the summer, with Ben cycling over 80 miles to the coast, finishing in Skegness.

80 year old Kenneth was a frequent visitor at DRI and was very popular with the staff that cared for him. After his passing, Ben decided to raise funds for the service, donating money in memory of his grandfather as a way to show his, and his family’s, gratitude, as well as to benefit patients going through treatment.

Ben said: “Completing this challenge was a way of saying  ‘thank you’ for the care my granddad received at the Renal Ward. I’m really happy to have completed this journey, having raised £268 which I know will be going to a fantastic cause.”

Ben completed the cycle in around six hours and has donated all funds to the ward which will be put towards new equipment in the department.

The Chatsfield Suite is based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and provides chemotherapy services for day-case haematology and solid tumour malignancies.
