An excellent opportunity has arisen to appoint a Full-time Advanced Clinical Coding Practitioner who relishes a challenge working in a busy and constantly changing environment.Clinically coded data is fundamental in supporting the Trust’s objectives of providing the highest quality clinical care. Trust income is reliant on accurate and timely clinically coded data.

The Trust has a reputation for high quality clinically coded data, which is achieved by providing high quality training, mentoring and support for all team members.The successful candidate will provide a vital and dynamic coding role within an excellent, high achieving and supportive coding team. The Trust has a reputation for consistently achieving targets and for high quality clinically coded data, which is achieved by providing excellent standards of training, mentoring and support for all team members.The candidate will require the accredited Clinical Coding (ACC) qualification and one year’s experience post attainment of ACC.

We will accept applications for ACC Coders with less than one year’s post ACC experience.
Band 5 (£24,214 – £30,112) with attainment of National Clinical Coding Examination and one year’s clinical coding experience post attainment of ACC
Band 4 (£21,089 – £23,761) with attainment of National Clinical Coding Examination in a wide range of specialties with less than one year’s post ACC experience.

As well as being a competent and experienced Clinical Coder, listed below are some of the other key skills that are essential:

  • Good analytical and judgemental skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to engage with staff at all levels
  • Advanced keyboard skills
  • Good time management skills
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of medical terminology, anatomical and physiological skills
  • In depth knowledge and experience in the use of the Coding Classifications ICD-10 5th Edition and OPCS-4.8
  • Experience in mentoring of Clinical Coding Trainees or less experienced Clinical Coding Officers.

The Clinical Coding Team at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises of a Clinical Coding Manager, an Assistant Clinical Coding Manager, a Clinical Coding Trainer, a Clinical Coding Data Quality Systems Manager, 4 Team Leaders which includes 0.5 whole time equivalent Auditor, 15 Clinical Coders, 3 Clerical Support, and an Administrative Apprentice, across 3 sites. The coding department offers a flexi-time scheme and we encourage applications from candidates seeking part-time hours or job share.

This post will require operational working across all Trust sites. Permanent base will be at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
