The winners will be announced on Thursday 19 September 2019!

This award is sponsored by Holt Doctors, and the shortlist is:

Wards 1 & 3 team

The team on Wards 1&3 are striving to improve the patient journey and experience for patients with hip fractures, getting timely surgery and other best practice care milestones. Alongside this staff have been fundraising in order to improve the environment for patients, two staff nurses in particular have raised a large amount of money in order to upgrade a room to provide a place to discuss sensitive issues.

Staff have helped to keep our patients safer, implementing falls prevention interventions through Person Centred Care and our current days without a fall are 52 days on ward 1 and 114 days on ward 3 , this is a huge achievement considering the vulnerable patients we have on an older persons orthopaedic ward. Ward 1&3 have also managed to go over a full year (372 days) without a serious pressure ulcer.

DSA Interventional Radiology team

The Interventional Radiology team has been quietly providing an exceptional, responsive, clinically integrated, high value service to the Trust for many years. Without the service provided by this team, many departments would be unable to provide high-level care to patients with a huge variety of life threatening and morbid conditions.

DBTH’s IR nurses and radiographers are leaders in the region for providing a comprehensive vascular access and ultrasound guided drainage service. DBTH has a more consistent and available PICC line, Midline and Hickman line insertion and troubleshooting service than any regional hospital, all delivered by highly skilled advanced practitioners in this team.

Endoscopy team

The Endoscopy team work tirelessly to ensure that they deliver a high-quality service for their patients. Recenttly they had a JAG review and although accreditation was deferred for six months, the assessment team were impressed with the service and highlighted a number of areas of excellence within it.
They commended the uniform endoscopy systems and processes facilitating excellent and safe cross-site working and noted how professional and comprehensive their patient information was – confirmed by positive patient feedback during the visit. They recognised the dedication needed by the service to roll out seven ‘BoSS’ lists a week and maintain their waiting times. The team were also commended for their diverse and flexible approach to teamwork and their tremendous efforts to recruit and develop new members of both endoscopy and support staff.
