Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s Chemotherapy team have joined a leading cancer charity.

Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s Chemotherapy team have joined a leading cancer charity.

The Macmillan Cancer Support “adoption” means the whole team, from cancer nurses, support workers and the reception staff, who are based at Chatsworth Suite in Doncaster Royal Infirmary, meet the high standards of care and support provided by Macmillan.

A total of 25 team members have been adopted by the charity, which means they could benefit from in excess of £30K in Macmillan funding every year to support staff and service development.

Lara Cunnane Reay, Macmillan Ward Manager at the Chatsworth Suite explains:

“ We’re so proud to be able to wear the Macmillan badge; it means we’ll be supported with specialist training and have access to grants to help increase our expertise and raise the bar of the care we’re able to deliver to local people .

“ From the moment patients walk through the door to their final chemotherapy session we want them to feel well cared for and to understand what’s happening. The whole team is part of that experience.”

Uniquely, the Chemotherapy Reception Team is also being adopted by the charity. Daisy Skaurdyus, Macmillan Receptionist explains:

“We’re the first professionals that people meet when they walk through the door. It’s our job to communicate clearly and make patients and families feel at ease at a really distressing time in their lives.”

Lisa Spivey, Macmillan Spokesperson, said:

“We’re thrilled to welcome the team to Macmillan, without doubt Macmillan professionals are our greatest asset.

“They support people affected by cancer at the moments that matter and we feel privileged to be able to support them in that.”

The Macmillan Chemotherapy Team is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support’s new campaign, Life With Cancer. Life with cancer is still life, and Macmillan will help you live it.
