Hospital Trust appoints a new Non-Executive Director

Following a robust selection process Mark Bailey has been appointed Non-Executive Director at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH).

Non-Executive Directors (NED) play a crucial role by bringing an independent perspective to the Trust’s boardroom. Appointed by the Council of Governors, they support the Chair, promote NHS values and contribute valuable insight to the development of strategy.

Mark, a former Group Director for Customers and Services at Rolls-Royce, joined the Trust in February and has an extensive background in the private sector having spent over 30 years with the world-renowned engineering company. Originally from Armthorpe in Doncaster, Mark now lives with his family in Ashbourne at the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire.

Initially trained as an engineer, Mark has extensive experience of operating at senior leadership and board level environments while nurturing a specialist interest in strategic development, business growth and customer service transformation. He has also led the introduction of innovative digital solutions throughout his career, something which is a particular focus for the Trust as it looks to further modernise how clinicians use technology to support patient care.

Speaking about his recent appointment, Mark said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be joining the team at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals. As a Non-Executive Director, I will be able to draw on my experiences as a leader within private industry, providing advice, constructive challenge as well as a different perspective to the organisation’s Board of Directors. Like most people, the NHS is very close to my heart, over the years my family and I have all benefited from the expertise and care of hospitals within this Trust. I can’t wait to play my part in helping this great provider meet  both challenges and opportunities in the years to come.”

As a Trust, DBTH hosts three hospital sites, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital, and serves around 444,000 patients annually. One of the largest employers in the area, the organisation has around 6,600 members of staff and oversees the development of around a third of all health students in the region.

Welcoming the new appointee, Trust Chair, Suzy Brain England OBE, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to appoint an individual of Mark’s calibre to our Board of Directors. With his extensive experience of the private sector, Mark will provide valuable and unique insight which will help to steer the organisation as we move forward and look to achieve our ambition of being the safest Trust in England, outstanding in all that we do.”

As a Non-Executive Director, Mark has been appointed to a three-year term after an open advertisement and recruitment process, led by the Trust’s  Council of Governors and senior leaders.
