Spirits raised, cakes devoured and funds ooze in for Bassetlaw Hospital’s spooky cake bake sale

Staff at Bassetlaw Hospital have raised over £1,300, funds which will be used to keep patients entertained by purchasing new televisions.

Ward A4, which cares for patients who have had a stroke or those who need rehabilitation, have raised the funds by hosting two spooky cake sales for Halloween, with staff, patients and visitors encouraged to go along and have a Halloween themed cake or bun to support the cause.

The funds will be spent on aerials for existing television sets, while the rest will be used to purchase five new TVs for patient bays on the ward. Dawn Clare, Discharge Coordinator on the ward, came up with the idea when a patient survey suggested that patients would like more access to entertainment and home comforts during their stay.

Dawn said: “A lot of our patients are here for rehabilitation care and cannot spend too long out of bed so will really appreciate having a personal TV next to their beds. It’s been hard work raising the money but it’s all worthwhile. There’s been a great response from the staff, coming in on their days off and donating their time to bake the cakes as well as indulging their sweet tooth in order to raise money for a good cause.”

The team on Ward A4 are also planning on holding a Christmas market in their garden area in the run-up to the festive season to continue their fundraising efforts.
