Research Performance

At DBTH we are committed to the successful delivery of clinical research across a range of specialties and services. We work in partnership with key stakeholders – including NHS Trusts, academia and industry – to enable access to a greater range of treatment options for our patients, whilst also supporting the translation of research findings into clinical practice.

We support a balanced and diverse portfolio of research studies, utilising both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, across the majority of our clinical services. These areas include (but are not restricted to):

  • Gastroenterology
  • Oncology Services
  • Orthopaedics
  • Paediatrics
  • Renal Medicine
  • Rheumatology
  • Stroke
  • Surgical Services

Our research is delivered by a range of healthcare professionals including Consultants, Nurses, Midwives, Allied Health Professionals and wider clinical colleagues.

Our staff members are supported in developing and testing new clinical protocols intended to address the specific healthcare needs of our local demographic. They are also supported in participating in established NIHR portfolio [adopted] multi-site trials, contributing to both national and international research programmes.

There are currently in excess of 250 studies which we support across our hospital sites. These are supported in varying capacities, as detailed in the table below:
