Our team of outpatient therapists provide assessment, management and support for patients.

Our team of outpatient therapists provide assessment, management and support for patients referred with the following:

  • Voice disorders
  • Dysphagia
  • Head and Neck Cancer
  • Communication difficulties
  • Voice problems as a result of Parkinson’s disease – LSVT

Our outpatient clinics run at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital (for LSVT only at Montagu Hospital).

We offer face to face, telephone and telehealth (video or telephone consultation) appointments.

How to refer to our outpatient service:

We accept written referrals, in the form of a letter or medical report, from GPs, consultants, other allied health professionals and specialist nurses.  We can also accept self-referrals for certain conditions.

All referrals for dysphagia (swallowing difficulties) must be made or agreed by a doctor.

To refer to Head and Neck Cancer Service, we have a slightly different process so please go to this section.

Arranging an appointment:

All patients who have been referred directly for our main outpatient services (Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital), will be sent a partial booking letter asking them to contact the department booking team to make an appointment.

If there is no response to the letter within 3 weeks, the referral is closed.

Our booking team are available to book an initial appointment and to book and rearrange follow-up appointments.

An appointment letter with details of the appointment date, time and location can be sent out for patient information.

The outpatient service at MMH is restricted to patients with Parkinson’s disease suitable for the

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment Programme – please visit the page for more details.

All patients who have been referred for Lee Silverman Voice Treatment will be contacted by a therapist to arrange an initial assessment.

Telehealth:

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic we have introduced a Telehealth Service (telephone or video consultations) in order to allow us to manage all outpatient referrals whilst still adhering to social distancing, isolation and shielding guidance.

All new referrals will be offered a telehealth triage appointment in the first instance which will allow us to establish how to best manage the symptoms.  You will be sent written information regarding our Telehealth Service and Guidance on how to use Video Consultations if required.

Face to Face appointments:

If you are offered a face to face appointment you will be given information regarding the current procedure for attending our clinics.  You may be contacted prior to your appointment in order for us to check your COVID-19 symptoms and exposure.  You will also have your temperature checked on arrival.  Dependant on the reason for your attendance, your therapist may be wearing full personal and protective equipment.

Please follow the Trust Guidance on attending face to face appointments during the COVID-19 pandemic: https://www.dbth.nhs.uk/patients-visitors/
