DBTH appoints two new Non-Executive Directors

Following a robust selection process, two Non-Executive Directors, Alan Chan and Sheena McDonnell, have been appointed by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals’ (DBTH) Council of Governors.

Non-Executive Directors (NED) play a crucial role by bringing an independent perspective to a hospital’s boardroom. They support the Chair, promote NHS values and contribute valuable insight to the development of strategy.

Alan is a Doncaster resident who is currently the General Counsel and Company Secretary at Parseq Group, a business process outsourcing group based in Rotherham where he advises the board and senior leadership team on governance, risk and commercial matters.

A qualified solicitor, Alan previously worked in Leeds for Eversheds LLP and Communisis PLC acting as Head of Legal. Prior to this, the legal professional worked as a Senior Associate in corporate finance for Pinsent Masons LLP which also included a secondment in Hong Kong.

Joining Alan is Sheena, a professional who specialises in leadership, organisational development, governance and transformation, having previously worked as a Director of Transformation at First Choice Homes, a housing association.

Prior to that, Sheena was a Head of Service and Inspector at the Audit Commission and Director at Stepping Stone, a registered charity that provides housing and support to homeless people in Greater Manchester.  In her new role, Sheena will bring expertise in cultural change, negotiation, strategic planning and stakeholder management.

Welcoming the new appointees, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals’ Chair, Suzy Brain England OBE, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to appoint two talented additions to our Board of Directors. Both Alan and Sheena have invaluable skills which will help to steer the organisation forward. My colleagues and I look forward to working with them in the coming months and years.

“We must also thank Alan Armstrong, who has recently left the Trust. Alan has worked as a Non-Executive Director at DBTH over the past five years and we thank him for his service to the organisation.”

The new Non-Executive Directors were appointed for three-year terms after an open advertisement and recruitment process, led by the Trust’s  Council of Governors.
