Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) has been awarded gold for wellbeing at work from Nottinghamshire County Council.

The Trust received the healthy merit in July 2017 for encouraging it’s over 6,000 strong workforce to get moving and live healthier lifestyles.  Throughout the year, doctors, nurses and other members of Team DBTH have been taking part in on-site exercise classes at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital and Bassetlaw Hospital, such as circuit training, badminton, zumba, legs, bums and tums, Pilates, lunchtime walks and yoga.

With a full calendar of sporting activities for staff to get active and informed, the Trust has also been keenly promoting health through ‘Wellbeing Awareness’ sessions with key speakers discussing topics such as cancer, drugs, alcohol and maintaining a healthy work and life balance.

Encouraging other lifestyle changes, the Trust’s on-site restaurants offer a menu of healthy options for staff, visitors and patients, while support has been extended to those wishing to cut down on their smoking habit and even alternative therapies offered such as massage and relaxation sessions.

Helen Houghton, Health and Wellbeing Lead for the Trust, said: “I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped the Trust achieve gold. This achievement builds upon the hard work we have undertaken over the past two years, first securing bronze in 2015, silver in summer 2016 and now with gold we can set our sights on platinum.

“There is strong evidence that increasing physical activity and having a healthy lifestyle brings many benefits such as increased self-esteem, lower stress levels and positive impact on mood. I am very pleased that Team DBTH have been taking advantage of the range of activities and education sessions we have been offering them and we will look to expand this further in the future.”

The Trust will now began work to achieve the platinum award.
