A charity fishing match, organised by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals’ Angling Club, has netted over £200 towards a new family room at Bassetlaw Hospital.

Members of the Assessment and Treatment Centre (ATC) team decided to fundraise for a family room last year, inviting colleagues to get involved, in memory of Trish Norman and Tina Harrison, who both sadly passed away in May 2015.  The room, which has been named ‘Trishina’ in tribute to the much-missed friends, opened in December 2016.

The ATC provides consultant-delivered care for patients who need longer assessment and treatment and the new family room is a quiet, calm and homely place for relatives and carers.

Simon Loukes, Angling Team Secretary, said: “The Hospital Angling Team have been raising money for Bassetlaw Hospital for over 15 years. This year we have arranged five matches for our members, raising £218.  The team decided the money should be donated to the ATC family room in memory of two of our colleagues and also to improve the facilities for patient’s families and visitors.  We are proud to be involved and hope the room will benefit many families.”

Rhiannon Boddy, ATC Sister, said: “We are delighted the family room is now open for our patients and their families.  Thank you so much to the Hospital’s Angling Team for their donation which brings the total raised to over £2,600.  Creating this family room has meant so much to ATC staff who wanted to honour their colleagues.  I also want to express particular thanks to Julie Parnell, one of our Health Care Support Workers, who has worked tirelessly to raise funds and get the room ready for its opening.”
