Hospital staff raise over £1,000 to bring entertainment onto the ward

Staff on the Respiratory Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary have pulled-off a very successful fundraising event, collecting over £1,200 to be spent on items for the ward.

The service, which cares for patients who are admitted with breathing complications and conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), was in need of some new televisions in its single rooms so that patients could access their favourite shows during a stay in hospital.

The team pooled their efforts and organised a cake sale, tombola and a raffle, which proved to be very popular with staff and relatives visiting loved ones on the ward.

Nicola Severein-Kirk, Ward Manager on the Unit, said: “I’m really proud of all the effort the staff put into organising and running this event. It will make a real difference to the patients and help them feel that bit more comfortable.

“Being in hospital can be an anxious time for some of the people that we care for and being away from your home comforts can make it that bit harder. Some patients prefer to be in a single room but it can be quite isolating so we want to make these rooms as homely as possible.”

The Trust recently launched its very own charity, called ‘Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity’ (DBTH Charity), in a bid to make it even easier for local people to support the Trust.
