Rory Mellor decided he wanted to stay busy during lockdown and when he wasn’t being home-schooled wanted to come up with a business idea that could generate money which would go to his local hospital. The young entrepreneur did some research online and, with the family recently welcoming a furry companion to their household, came up with the idea of doggy treats. Rory set about making the snacks from ingredients including chicken, peanut butter and sardines, individually wrapping and selling them to family and friends.
Mum, Becca, said: “Rory was determined he wanted to do something to show his support to Bassetlaw Hospital and researched everything he needed to make this possible. He has sold so many batches we’ve lost count, but has raised a massive £500. Our local newspaper also awarded him ‘Citizen of the Week’. I am so proud of Rory for coming up with the idea and then seeing it through to then being able to make this donation to the hospital.”
Chief Executive of the Trust, Richard Parker OBE, said: “I think this is an ingenious idea and want to say well done to Rory for staying busy while not at school and thinking up ways to support his local hospital, and thank you to those who have supported. Rory is definitely an entrepreneur in the making and I am sure we will see him in a future episode of Dragon’s Den!”

The Rainbow Garden appeal seeks to create two beautiful spaces at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital respectfully in memory of two colleagues who sadly passed away due to Covid-19, as well as all those who have been lost the virus.
