About the MEOC
The MEOC is a surgical hub that specialises in orthopaedic elective surgery. It is one of many surgical hubs that have been built within England.
The service is a collaboration between Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH), Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BH) and The Rotherham Hospital Foundation Trust (TRFT), to provide additional surgical resources to benefit the people of South Yorkshire.
A video explaining the benefits of elective surgical hubs produced by The Patients Association, in partnership with the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, is available below.
The MEOC was completed and opened to patients in January 2024 as part of a £14.9 million project.
The centre is a specialised unit, operating 50 weeks per year, five days per week, and aims to rise to a six day service in the near future.
The MEOC performs orthopaedic surgery for the following areas:
- Knee and hip replacements
- Hand and wrist
- Foot and ankle
- Arm and shoulder
More information about the MEOC can be found here.
