DBTH Partner Brief (April 2024)

Welcome to our Partner Brief for April 2024.

In late March we received our CQC Report, which moved the Trust from ‘Good’ to ‘Requires Improvement’. Whilst this was a very disappointing outcome but in part is probably reflective of the pressures and challenges that the NHS locally, and nationally has been facing.

Since the unannounced inspection more than six months ago, in September and October 2023, the Trust has made significant progress, appointments, and most pleasingly the organisation’s most recent Staff Survey results have shown positive changes, with 94% of responses indicating improvements in staff experiences compared to last year.

We know that that there is work ahead, but we are confident we will be able to return to ‘Good’ sooner rather than later.

Beyond the CQC, I invite you to explore the newsletter and learn more about our recent developments, highlights and activity throughout the past month or so.

As ever, thank you for your continued support and collaboration.

Trust receives ‘Needs Improvement’ rating following Care Quality Commission (CQC) report

Following an inspection last year, our CQC rating has been adjusted from ‘Good’ to ‘Requires Improvement’.

Despite the change in rating, the CQC report, published on Thursday 28 March, recognised a number of areas of quality care and practice at the Trust, which continues to be rated ‘Good’ for caring. Additionally, none of the services at Bassetlaw Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Montagu Hospital have been rated as ‘Inadequate’.

Whilst we understand that there is work ahead to improve, we are excited for the future, and the improvements we are confident that we will be able to implement.

The full report can be viewed on the CQC website at https://www.cqc.org.uk/provider/RP5

Special graduation ceremony for international recruits

Last month, we hosted a special graduation ceremony for 46 newly-appointed Registered Nurses and four midwives following the successful completion of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), allowing them to clinically practice in the United Kingdom.

Since 2020, the Trust has recruited more than 200 trained professionals from overseas, supporting them to gain official accreditations as well as settle within the country. All of them are fully trained and registered within their country of origin, and have been appointed to take up roles across a variety of specialities across the organisation’s three hospitals.

The DBTH Visitor’s Charter

As an action of our newly launched Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals Strategy, we intend to roll-out a Visitors Charter, setting clear expectations for both visitors and colleagues within the Trust.

Built upon the principle of mutual respect, this charter emphasises the right of every individual to be treated with consideration, dignity, and respect, whether receiving care, or delivering it.

Aligned with the DBTH Way, the charter aims to uphold high standards of care and conduct within Trust’s facilities. As part of this initiative, we are seeking your feedback, as well as comment from our local communities, to ensure the charter reflects our values and aspirations.

You can read the draft Visitors Charter by clicking here, and you can offer your feedback by completing this short form.

Consultant Podiatric Surgeon Elected to Council of Royal College of Podiatry

Mr Tony Wilkinson, Lead Consultant Podiatric Surgeon at DBTH, has been elected to the Council of the Royal College of Podiatry.

During his three-year tenure Tony will represent the voice of podiatric professionals in the strategic planning, promotion of diversity and inclusion and ensuring membership engagement of the podiatric profession.

The Royal College of Podiatry (RCPod) is the professional association and trade union for registered chiropodists and podiatrists in the United Kingdom.

New library facilities open at Doncaster Royal Infirmary

Last month, new library facilities were unveiled at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, improving learning opportunities for colleagues and students based at the site.

The on-site library now boasts some additional features for learners at the hospital to progress their studies and for colleagues wishing to spend their break times with a good book.

Three ‘pods’ have been created, which can be used as ’hot desk’ areas which offer quiet workspaces with ambient lighting and power points for laptops and mobile phones. These are open during the library’s opening hours, and have mainly been used by students who need a quiet spot for studying or for colleagues who may need a temporary workspace, often working across one of the Trust’s many sites.
