A Healthcare Assistant at Bassetlaw Hospital has been given an award for her fundraising efforts to improve facilities at the hospital.

Andrea Colton, who works in the Outpatients department, has been tirelessly organising fundraisers to round up £2,800 to purchase an additional ECG machine for the area. The machine will be used in the department to check for abnormalities in the electrical activity of patients’ hearts.

Andrea works as a Director at a Worksop Light Operatic Society where she has put on shows to raise extra funds for the equipment. She has also encouraged staff to donate books and prizes so that she could run raffles and tombola’s at the hospital.

Andrea said: “It’s been great to see so many people take part in these fundraisers: It wouldn’t have been possible without their generosity. It will definitely make a difference to the people of Bassetlaw to have this equipment on site.”

Melanie Green, the Sister who nominated Andrea for the award, said: “Andrea’s enthusiasm and organisational skills have got the staff of Outpatients to pull together on a good cause. Andrea is a brilliant member of the team; she’s always coming up with good ideas for efficiency in the workplace. She is tireless and very conscientious in all aspects of her job.”

DBTH Stars is Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Staff Awards & Recognition Scheme.  Any member of staff employed by the Trust, or any patient who has visited one of our sites, can nominate somebody who they think deserves recognition.

A panel of staff and managers chose Andrea as Star of the Month and she was presented with a certificate and shopping voucher by Suzy Brain England, Chair of the Board at the Trust which runs the hospital.
