A local bike rider is taking on an 82 mile trip to raise money for the Chatsworth Suite at Doncaster Royal Infirmary in memory of his late Grandad Kenneth.

The sponsored cycle, which takes place on Saturday 15 July, will see Ben cycling just over an astonishing 80 mile trek from Nottingham to Skegness.

80 year old Kenneth was a frequent visitor to the Renal Ward for treatment and was very popular with the staff that looked after him. After his passing, Ben was determined to fundraise for the service, donating money in memory of his grandfather which will help to benefit patients going through treatment.

Ben said: “This is my way of saying ‘thank you’ for the care my granddad received at the Renal Ward. I’m really looking forward to participating in this event and I’m aiming to raise as much money as I possibly can as I know it’s going to a fantastic cause.”

Ben is aiming to complete the challenge in around six hours and will donate all funds raised to the ward which will be put towards new equipment in the department. Ben’s passion for cycling grew in 2013 and rides on average around 3,000 miles a year. Despite his lack of training this year due to family commitments, Ben is determined to complete the tiring challenge in the best time possible.
