Meet your hospital Governors

People living in Doncaster are invited to a drop-in session on Friday 19 January 2018 to meet their local hospital Governors.

Proving popular in recent years at Bassetlaw Hospital, these events are a chance for local residents to tell Governors what they think of services and also for them to find out more about the role.  The drop-in session will take place within Outpatients at Doncaster Royal Infirmary from 10am until 12pm and 2pm until 4pm.

Doncaster public Governors, who represent the interests of local residents on the Board of Governors of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, have varied duties which include:

  • Talking to patients to make sure quality standards are met and maintained
  • Taking part in inspections
  • Representing the views and interests of local people
  • Holding the Board of Directors to account through the Non-Executive Directors.

Governors don’t deal with individual complaints – but they can signpost people to the right way to complain about services that are not up to scratch. But the elected members hope that their input, as lay people, means they spot problems before they arise and in that way can help make sure patients’ stay in hospital is a good experience.

If you are interested in standing as a Governor at future elections, there’s more information available through the Foundation Trust Office at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Armthorpe Road, Doncaster DN2 5LT.  Tel: 01302 644158 or e-mail foundation.office@dbth.nhs.uk.

The Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Governors have put together a video to inform local residents what they do and this is available to watch on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq0buoLaHS4.
