NHS 111

For patients ages five years old and over only.

Contact NHS 111 if you think you need urgent medical help for a situation that is not life-threatening. They can help if you:

  • have a minor injury
  • are feeling unwell
  • need advice on a current condition

Your local General Practice has a skilled team of medical professionals who act as the first point of contact for the following:

  • Long-term conditions
  • Prescriptions

Urgent Care

Urgent treatment centres can help with the following:

  • sprains and strains
  • suspected broken bones
  • injuries, cuts and bruises
  • stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhoea
  • skin infections and rashes
  • high temperature in children and adults
  • mental health concerns
  • emergency contraception

Urgent treatment centres in Doncaster and Bassetlaw

Doncaster Same Day Health Centre

  • Call 0300 123 3103 if you are unable to get an urgent appointment with your GP
  • Evening and weekend appointments available.

Mexborough Minor Injuries Unit
Montagu Hospital, Adwick Road, Mexborough, S64 0AZ

For patients aged one year old and over only.

Patients aged over 65 years old with head injuries cannot be seen at Montagu Minor Injuries Unit under NICE Guidelines.

Open 9am-9pm every day except Christmas Day. Last attendance is at 8pm every day.

Can treat:

  • Sprains and strains
  • Broken bones
  • Wounds, lacerations and grazes
  • Wound infections caused by an injury
  • Minor burns and scalds
  • Minor head injuries (non-symptomatic and under the age of 65 years old)
  • Insect and animal bites
  • Minor eye injuries (foreign bodies only).

Cannot treat:

  • Chest pain
  • Rashes or skin complaints
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Major injuries
  • Problems usually dealt with by a GP
  • Stomach pains
  • Gynaecological problems
  • Pregnancy problems
  • Overdoses
  • Alcohol related problems
  • Mental health problems
  • Conditions likely to require hospital admission

Minor Injuries Units are also available at Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) and Bassetlaw Hospital.

These Minor Injuries Units are available via the emergency departments, and patients will be directed accordingly. DRI and Bassetlaw Hospital Minor Injuries Units are open seven days a week, 365 days a year.


Emergency

In the event of a life-threatening emergency, go to your local Emergency Department or call 999. Examples of life-threatening emergencies include:

  • Choking
  • Chest pain/heart attack
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Serious blood loss
  • Significant injury or trauma
  • Stroke
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Fits/seizures
  • Major trauma from accidents, falls, or assaults.

Doncaster

In the event of a mental health emergency please call the RDaSH Mental Health Crisis Team on 0800 804 8999. You can also contact NHS 111.

Doncaster Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS)

Conditions treated:

  • Red eye or eyelids
  • Dry, gritty, or uncomfortable eyes
  • Eye irritation and inflammation
  • A lot of recent discharge from the eye or watery eye
  • Recently occurring flashes or floaters
  • Painful eye
  • Ingrowing lashes
  • Recent and sudden loss of vision
  • Foreign body in the eye
