You have had a bronchoscopy and are unlikely to suffer any serious side effects. On coughing and blowing your nose you may experience a slight blood loss, this is nothing to worry about.
You will feel sleepy for the rest of the day, and you may have a sore throat for one or two days.
Following the procedure you will have been offered a drink after an hour. Please follow these instructions:
- If you have had no adverse reaction then you may eat and drink normally.
Discharge Home
You will be able to go home once a nurse has ensured that you are ready to do so. The nurse will discuss any discharge advice and any future appointments with you.
You are advised to rest for the remainder of the day. You should be able to return to work 24 hours after your bronchoscopy.
Please remember that if you have had sedation, for 24 hours:
- Do not drive.
- Do not drink alcohol.
- Do not operate machinery.
- Do not sign any legal documents.
- Do not take sleeping tablets on the same night as the procedure.
- Do not smoke for four hours, as your reactions will be much slower.
- Take care near the oven and kettle.
