Our team of outpatient therapists provide assessment, management and support for patients referred with the following:
- Swallowing disorders
- Head and Neck Cancer
- Communication difficulties
- Voice disorders
Our outpatient clinics run at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital.
We offer face to face, telephone and telehealth (video or telephone consultation) appointments.
How to refer to our outpatient service:
We accept written referrals, in the form of a letter or medical report, from GPs, consultants, other allied health professionals and specialist nurses. We can also accept self-referrals for certain conditions.
All referrals for swallowing difficulties must be made or agreed by a doctor.
To refer to Head and Neck Cancer Service, we have a slightly different process so please go to this section.
Arranging an appointment:
All patients who have been referred directly for our main outpatient services (Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital), will be sent a partial booking letter asking you to contact the department booking team to make an appointment.
If there is no response to the partial booking letter within 3 weeks, the referral is closed.
Our booking team are available to book an initial appointment and to book and rearrange follow-up appointments.
An appointment letter with details of the appointment date, time and location can be sent out for patient information. This may be sent via a text clink but you may request a paper copy.
Face to face and Telehealth appointments:
We offer both face to face and a Telehealth Service (telephone or video consultations). The telehealth service is available if getting to the hospital is difficult for you. We do not offer home visits.
You may be offered a telehealth triage appointment in the first instance which will allow us to establish how to best manage your symptoms. You will be sent written information regarding our Telehealth Service and Guidance on how to use Video Consultations if required. If you would prefer to be seen face to face, please let the booking team know when making your appointment.
