Agency Switchboard Team named as Stars at local hospital’s awards evening

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) has named the NHS Professional’s Switchboard Agency Team as ‘Bank Stars’ at its annual awards ceremony.

This year’s Star Awards ceremony took place on 2 November at the Doncaster Dome. With over 500 staff members in attendance, the evening was hosted by Radio Heart DJ David ‘Dixie’ Dixon to recognise the notable achievements and amazing contributions of NHS colleagues across the Trust.

The ‘Bank Star’ award, a new accolade to the roster of nomination categories at this year’s event, aims to celebrate the unwavering commitment of agency colleagues who seamlessly blend into the hospital’s workforce, providing invaluable support to Trust services. This year, the award was presented to the Switchboard Agency Team, an incredible group of colleagues who have consistently shown themselves to be indispensable and valued members of DBTH.

Comprising of Muriel Kent, Elizabeth Caddy, Ashlie Dodd, Sharron Phelan, Toby Wilkinson, and Amy Farrington, The Switchboard Bank Team exemplify the qualities of dedication, professionalism, and teamwork. Their willingness to step up at a moment’s notice to offer support has played a crucial role in ensuring the hospital runs a consistent service and offers assistance to callers in a timely and professional manner.

The Trust’s hospital switchboard operates round the clock, 365 days a year, taking calls and expertly signposting callers both externally and internally. Within the wider switchboard team, the Bank colleagues have demonstrated an exceptional level of commitment, undergoing rigorous training to support the service and are often prepared to work any shift, either with colleagues or independently.

Their nominators, the Telecoms Team, have commended their exceptional dedication and flexibility to support the service, known to cover shifts at short notice and as lone workers, the six colleagues are reliable and integral part of switchboard team and play a huge role in keeping things running smoothly.

Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive at the Trust, said: “I would like to thank and congratulate the Agency Switchboard Team for all their hard work this year. This award duly recognises their amazing dedication to providing support to the Trust behind the scenes. It was a pleasure to celebrate our colleagues’ achievements at such a fantastic event.”

This year, DBTH received an unprecedented number of nominations, with over 800 submissions from colleagues sharing heartfelt feedback about their peers and their remarkable achievements. The judging panel, made up of colleagues from a number of services and specialities, faced the challenging task of selecting this year’s shortlist, whittling down candidates to around 50.

The Star Awards grants staff members the opportunity to celebrate their colleagues by nominating them for their outstanding work within the Trust. Over the course of the evening thirteen amazing winners were announced for categories including ‘Rising Star’ and ‘Inclusion Champion’ alongside the inspiring stories of all the highly commended nominees. The annual awards ceremony will return next year to celebrate more amazing staff at DBTH.
