Car thefts at the Trust

We are so disappointed to share that there have been a small number of vehicle thefts reported within the Trust recently, reflecting the national increase in such crime which, according to reports, is up almost 10% since last year.

Despite the best efforts of our Security team, we have found ourselves targeted by criminals who have either stolen cars, or taken items such as catalytic converters from the vehicles of colleagues and patients.

This is hugely dispiriting and demoralising, and whilst we understand we are fighting an uphill battle, we continue to work with South Yorkshire Police. Fortunately, using CCTV we have been able to assist with the recovery of a number of vehicles and we will continue to work with partners.

If visitors are on site or at the Park and Ride facility on Ledger Way, if you notice anything you think is suspicious, please report it to the Security Team by contacting Switchboard on 01302 366666.

Whilst nobody is fair game for this type of activity, it is appalling that those who are delivering care for the most vulnerable, or indeed receiving treatment, are being targeted in this manner.

Actions we have taken recently to enhance on site security

We are working with South Yorkshire Police and Nottinghamshire Police who are undertaking regular patrols of our sites and the Park and Ride facility.

We are working closely with our security provider, Saba, to increase footfall to at-risk areas, as well as exploring further mitigations to deter theft.

Police Community Support Officers are also regularly patrolling our sites on foot to deter would-be criminals.

We are also convening regular meetings with both our police organisations to ensure they are aware of the challenges and risks our sites are facing.

Actions taken to enhance Park and Ride security

We have increased the lighting to the area, following feedback from colleagues.

CCTV is now available in the area, however it is important visitors park within the gravelled area which is covered by cameras (and operated by the Trust). If this area is full, park as close to it as possible.
Security colleagues regularly patrol this area, whilst South Yorkshire Police undertake regular visits.

What to do if you have been targeted

Unfortunately, determined criminals will still try their luck, and may be successful in their efforts.

If your vehicle is taken, or a part stolen, please contact the Police in the first instance, followed by our security team on 01302 642666 who will be able to support with the recovery of CCTV footage.
