Covid-19 update (23 October)

In the past 24 hours, we have seen more rises in admissions with patients having tested positive for Covid-19.

Throughout the past 24 hours, we have seen further admissions for those testing positive for Covid-19 and, at the time of writing, are caring for 175 such individuals. That’s 140 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, 15 at Bassetlaw Hospital and 21 at Montagu Hospital. As was the case yesterday, the age range of these patients is from 17 to 99 – outlining that this disease can effect everyone.

Of these patients, seven require critical care, with three on mechanical ventilation, 15 non-invasive ventilation and seven oxygen. We wish them all the very best and a speedy recovery. Please note as has been claimed by some, this does not mean the other 100 or so patients do not require high levels of care, it simply means they just do not need these specific interventions and treatments.

With immense sadness, we have reported that four patients have passed away with Covid-19 having played a significant factor in the cause of death. We share our most heartfelt condolences with their friends, family and loved ones.

On a brighter note, over the past three days, we have discharged 25 patients, and we wish them all the best in their ongoing recovery.

At midnight tonight, Doncaster will move into ‘Very High Alert’ and as such further restrictions will be in place. If you are intending to go out tonight, please support us and head back home promptly at 10pm. Colleagues are working night and day under very trying circumstances, please do all you can to help them. Together we know that we can flatten the curve and save lives.

Thank you, continue to protect the vulnerable amongst us and help us flatten the curve – and remember, sunshine follows thunder – we will get through this together as a community.
