Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals named Employer of the Year at the Doncaster Business Awards 2023

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) has been named Employer of the Year award at the Doncaster Business Awards 2023. The recognition acknowledges the significant steps the Trust has made to celebrate and nurture its diverse workforce, placing a high value on well-being and engagement.

The awards ceremony, held on Thursday, December 7 2023 at the Doncaster Racecourse, celebrated the achievements and contributions of businesses in the borough.

DBTH serves a population of over 440,000 people in South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, and surrounding areas, and is one of only a small number of teaching hospitals in Yorkshire. The Trust is one of the largest employers in the area and employs over 7,000 colleagues across a range of clinical and non-clinical roles, and cares for more than half a million patients every year.

Throughout the past number of years, DBTH has achieved improved results in colleague engagement, demonstrated by its high response rates in the annual NHS Staff Survey and improved outcomes in the most recently published survey, the implementation of the RACE Equality Code Quality Mark and comprehensive action plan on equality, diversity and inclusion as well as redevelopment of the organisation’s programme of reward and recognition. The Trust’s People Strategy, launched in early 2023, further outlines its commitment to improving the working lives of its colleagues, with a bevvy of supporting actions currently being worked through.

Furthermore, the organisation’s Health and Wellbeing team have made significant progress, responding to the impact of the pandemic on morale. The Trust’s comprehensive wellbeing package includes complementary therapies, general health clinics and blood pressure checks, counselling, mental health support, menopause support and financial wellbeing support. These initiatives have garnered overwhelming feedback both internally and externally, with colleagues reporting improvements in both their work and personal lives as a result.

Zoe Lintin, Chief People Officer at DBTH, expressed her gratitude for the recognition, stating: “This award is a testament to the incredible efforts of our colleagues and their unwavering commitment to providing exceptional care. Suzy Brain England OBE, Chair of the Board, also shared her thoughts on the achievement, saying: “Being named Employer of the Year is a tremendous honour, reflecting the hard work and dedication of everyone at DBTH. Reflecting recent achievements within the Trust, DBTH was nominated for nine awards as part of the Doncaster Business Awards, winning Employer of the Year as well as Campaign of the Year on the night.
