Introducing Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU)

Health professionals at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) are pleased to announce the implementation of Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU) appointments. This new approach allows patients with long-term conditions to arrange follow-up appointments as and when needed, rather than at routine intervals.

For many patients, regular follow-up appointments with hospital teams are not necessary. PIFU aims to eliminate unnecessary appointments, saving patients time and money while reducing stress and anxiety. While PIFU is not suitable for every patient, those who may benefit will have this option discussed with them by their hospital care team.

How PIFU Works:

If PIFU is accessible and appropriate for you, the healthcare professional in charge of your care will discuss this with you. If you agree, your name will be added to the PIFU appointment list.
