Local hospital Trust thanks volunteers this festive season

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) hosted festive lunch to thank dedicated hospital volunteers.

The event, organised on the run-up to Christmas, took place across two of the Trust’s hospital sites—Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital—was specially planned to honour and celebrate the unwavering commitment of over 200 hospital volunteers at DBTH, acknowledging their exceptional hard work and dedication throughout the year.

Attended by Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive of the Trust, and Non-Executive Directors, Kath Smart, Dr. Emyr Wyn Jones, and Mark Bailey, the DBTH volunteers were treated to a delightful spread of cakes, sandwiches refreshments and given the opportunity to catch up and connect with fellow volunteers.

Hospital volunteers are essential pillars of support at DBTH. Whether you’re a patient navigating through different wards or areas, their presence is a source of comfort—offering a compassionate ear and a warm smile precisely when it’s needed most.

For visitors, these dedicated volunteers extend their kindness by assisting with visits to loved ones, welcoming you with a friendly face at the door and providing helpful directions. Their unwavering commitment enhances the overall experience for both patients and visitors, creating a reassuring atmosphere of care and support throughout the hospital.

In opening the event, Richard expressed heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering dedication and generous donation of time of the DBTH volunteers, emphasising the vital role they play in enhancing the hospital experience for many.

Each volunteer also received a box of biscuits as a small token of appreciation for their selfless service throughout the year.

Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive, said: “It was a pleasure to gather together to extend my gratitude to all our incredible volunteers. Their dedicated presence across our sites lights up our hospitals with warmth and compassion and brightens the experience of so many. I would like to wish each and every one of our volunteers a Merry Christmas and hope to see you all in the new year.”

The festive lunch served as a meaningful way to recognize and thank these unsung heroes who enhance the hospital experience for everyone they encounter.
