Following a number of operational changes, the below areas will be renamed:
- Emergency Surgical Assessment Care (ESAC) will now be known as Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC for short).
- Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU) will now be known as Medical SDEC.
Signage around relevant Trust sites will start to change from the week commencing 10 June 2024.
Our ask of our colleagues during this transition:
- To ensure that patient documentation is updated as appropriate.
- To ensure that the correct terminology is used when referring to the areas during any telephone calls or correspondence you have with patients and service users. This is to help individuals navigate easily when visiting the hospital.
What is SDEC?
SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) focuses on treating and discharging patients on the same day they come in.
This applies to a variety of medical and surgical issues and helps avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. It means patients get home quicker, freeing up hospital beds for those who need longer stays.
