Here’s what you need to know:
Pharmacy opening times
Some pharmacies will be open over the bank holiday, but with reduced hours.
If you need advice or help with things like coughs, colds, rashes or medication, your local pharmacist can help — often without the need for an appointment.
You can find bank holiday pharmacy opening times at: www.england.nhs.uk/south/info-professional/pharmacy/opening-hours/
(Please check with the pharmacy before travelling, as times may change.)
When to go to hospital — and when not to
Our Emergency Departments (A&E) at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital are open 24/7 for life-threatening emergencies such as:
- Chest pain or breathing difficulties
- Severe bleeding or serious injury
- Suspected stroke
- Sudden confusion or loss of consciousness
If you or someone else is seriously ill or injured, call 999 or go to A&E immediately.
Bank holidays can often become very busy for our services – if it’s not a 999 emergency but you still need medical help, use NHS 111. They can:
- Help you decide what to do
- Book you into a local urgent treatment centre, GP out-of-hours service or pharmacy
Visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111 for free, any time of day or night.
Please only come to A&E if it’s an emergency — this helps us treat those who need us most, as quickly as possible.

Tips to stay well this weekend
- Check your medication — make sure you’ve got enough of your regular prescriptions
- Keep a stocked medicine cabinet — plasters, paracetamol and any usual over-the-counter treatments
- Know your local options — urgent treatment centres, pharmacies and 111 can all help with non-emergencies
- Check in on others — especially older neighbours, friends or relatives who may need support
Coming to hospital for an appointment?
Some outpatient clinics and routine services may be closed over the bank holiday. If you have an appointment booked, please attend unless you’ve been contacted to say otherwise.
