At the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Cancer Alliance, we know that in order for cancer services to be the best they can be, we need meaningful communication with the local population in order to understand their experience and gather valuable feedback. This is why we formed our ‘People Affected by Cancer Advisory Board’ (previously known as the Patient Advisory Board).

The People Affected by Cancer Advisory Board (PABCAB) is a panel of people who have been affected by cancer in South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw or North Derbyshire either as a patient or as someone who has cared for, or supported, someone with cancer. Meetings are held every two months between the panel, Cancer Alliance programme leads, and on occasion members from Trust and partner organisations or charities. The meetings ensure that the needs of patients and carers are given priority and provide opportunity to challenge the thinking of those making decisions where necessary. This work is then fed back to senior leaders and key decision-making forums of the Cancer Alliance, and therefore the role of the PABCAB is vital.

A recruitment drive for new PABCAB members has commenced both online and in-person and we would be very grateful for your support in spreading the word, whether that be through sharing any materials posted on our social media and website, through your communications channels, or via word of mouth. The wider variety of voices we can obtain for our People Affected by Cancer Advisory Board, the better targeted our services can be.

More information about PABCAB and how to apply can be found here: People Affected by Cancer Advisory Board :: South Yorkshire, Bassetlaw & North Derbyshire Cancer Alliance (canceralliancesyb.co.uk)
