Meet Emily, a healthcare assistant

Discover how Emily’s journey from university to a hands-on apprenticeship led her to a fulfilling career as a Healthcare Assistant.

After completing her GCSEs and A-Levels, Emily decided to pursue a university degree in Sociology. However, after a year, she realised that the course wasn’t the right fit for her. Seeking a more practical, hands-on approach, Emily chose to leave university and applied for a CSP Level 2 apprenticeship here at the Trust, which she began in October 2022 and successfully completed in December 2023 with a Distinction.

While working in the hospital during her apprenticeship, Emily discovered a strong interest in clinical work, which led to her application and acceptance as a Healthcare Assistant in July. Emily had this to say about her time at DBTH:

“What I’ve enjoyed most about the apprenticeship is the opportunity to earn while I learn, the chance to build relationships with colleagues across various departments, and the broad understanding I’ve gained of different systems, resources, policies, and procedures. The support from tutors and vocational educators has been invaluable. I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone considering it.”

The Trust is proud to support a wide range of career pathways, whether through university, apprenticeships, or other opportunities. We believe in empowering individuals to find the route that best suits their skills and aspirations, and we are committed to helping them succeed every step of the way.
