How Do I Apply for a Clinical Attachment at DBTH?
You will need to download and complete the Clinical Attachment Application Form. We recommend you read Occupational Health guidance before you apply to ensure you can provide the correct information before applying.
Step 1: Download the clinical attachment application form and complete all sections (if not applicable state N/A). Please note incomplete forms will be declined. Make sure you submit your application during the application window for the cohort you would like to attend. We have a maximum of 12 placements on each cohort and places are filled on a first come first serve basis.
Step 2: Return your completed application form, CV, and evidence of the above entry criteria. Completed forms need to be returned to dbth.workexperience@nhs.net
Step 3: Your request will be reviewed by the team. You will receive an email advising the outcome of your application. If your application has been successful you will need to make the £50.00 deposit payment by the deadline and send evidence of your payment receipt.
Step 4: You will receive an Occupational Health link, which needs to be completed by a specific deadline. Please be aware if you do not complete the Occupational Health link by the deadline your placement allocation will be automatically withdrawn. This is due to the time it takes to complete clearance process and organise placements. Please note without Occupational Health clearances, you will be unable to undertake a clinical attachment.
Step 5: You will be contacted by the Occupational Health Department to attend a pre-placement appointment. This is an in-person appointment that must be attended at least 14 working days before your placement starts. Any delays with clearance will result in your placement being withdrawn.
Step 6: The final balance will need to be paid at least 2 weeks before the start of your Clinical Attachment. You will be required to pay the final £200.00 payment by this deadline and send evidence of your payment receipt.
Step 7: You will be sent your placement agreement. This will confirm your placement area along with other documents to sign and return.
Step 8: Attend your allocated clinical attachment induction at the Trust on your first day and start your placement.
You must email dbth.workexperience@nhs.net if you can no longer attend your allocated clinical attachment cohort/do not wish for your application for to be processed any further. Please note any fees paid are non-refundable.
We strongly advise any potential clinical attachment candidates review the FAQs below before submitting an application.

It will depend on the area you have requested what types of activities you will observe. Please note the clinical attachment is observational only.
Is there an age requirement?
Learners must be an international medical graduate who graduated no more than 5 years ago. There is no upper age limit.
My request has not been accepted; can I be placed on a reserve list?
Unfortunately, due to the time it takes to complete clearances and organise placements we do not keep a reserve list. You are welcome to review the other dates and re-apply.

Unfortunately, our clinical attachments are 4 weeks in duration and cannot be extended.
I’ve missed the application window; can I still apply?

Unfortunately, we can only accept applications for each cohort during their application window.
Do I need to be in the UK to apply?
No, you can apply from outside the UK, but you must ensure you have the necessary visa in place for your visit. Can DBTH sponsor my Visa or help with my Visa application?
Unfortunately, DBTH cannot sponsor your visa application or help with any visa applications.
What is Occupational Health Clearance?
As part of the Trust policy, all clinical attachments must undertake Occupational Health clearance. This involves completing an online link and answering questions about your health. You will also be required to attach your vaccination record – you can obtain a copy of this from your GP.
If you are asked to attend an appointment, you must attend at the scheduled time. You must ensure this is at least 14 working days before your placement starts. Any delays with clearance will result in your placement being withdrawn.
