As of 28 February 2022, certain groups of patients and visitors at our hospital sites are eligible to receive concessionary parking permits.
Following government guidelines, DBTH is working to make hospital car parking free for those in greatest need.
Recently at DBTH, this has included changes to our car parking administration to allow free overnight parking for staff on night shifts and the removal of parking charges for those who are blue badge holders or parents of a child staying in hospital overnight.
On all of our sites, from 28 February 2022, free parking will also be provided to all out-patients who frequently attend hospital for appointments. This means that, from 28 February, the Trust will provide free car parking for:
- Disabled people – this is for holders of a valid Blue Badge attending hospital as a patient or visitor, or for a disabled person employed by the hospital trust. Disabled patients and visitors receive free parking for the duration of their attendance at, or visit to, the hospital. Disabled employees receive free parking while at the hospital for purposes relating to their employment.
- Frequent outpatient attenders: free parking will be provided to all out-patients who attend hospital for an appointment at least three times within a month and for an overall period of at least three months. A ‘month’ is defined as a period of 30 days.
- End-Of-Life care visitors: Free parking will be provided to frequent visitors of patients who are receiving end of life care.
- Parents of sick children staying overnight: this is for a parent or guardian of a child or young person, under 18 years of age, who is admitted as an inpatient at hospital overnight. They receive free parking between the hours of 7.30pm and 8am while visiting the child. This would apply to a maximum of two vehicles.
If you are a member of one of the above groups, please speak to a member of staff during your visit who will be able to fill out an electronic form to apply for your permit. They will need to take a few details from you including your car registration number (this will be added to our Automatic Number Plate Recognition database so the concessionary prices will be applied to your visits).
