DBTH opportunity: Volunteer Fundraising Assistant

We are looking for someone to help us go above and beyond with our charitable efforts.

Are you passionate about helping your local hospital go above and beyond?

We are looking for a willing volunteer to join our fundraising team who can help us raise the vital funds we need to continue going above and beyond for our patients and staff.

This will be a fantastic opportunity for someone who has some time to spare and wants to help their local NHS or for someone who is perhaps looking for a career in fundraising and looking for an opportunity to gain some experience working within a fundraising team.

What you will be doing:

  • General office tasks which will include accepting and delivering donations to our wards
  • Working with the Corporate Fundraiser to send thank you letters to our amazing supporters
  • Supporting with researching new fundraising opportunities across Doncaster and Bassetlaw which will include charity of the year opportunities, local trusts and foundations and local events we can be part of
  • Other ad hoc admin support for the fundraising and communication team as required
  • To be an excellent ambassador for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals in your local community

Commitment:

  • This volunteer position can be flexible to your availability and any support you can offer would be appreciated.
  • The role will be based within the Communications and Engagement Office at Doncaster Royal Infirmary or Bassetlaw Hospital.

Skills required:

There are no skills required for the role, however a passion or interest in fundraising would be desirable.

We expect volunteers to follow these main principles:

  • Maintain good personal hygiene and appearance
  • Undertake duties only detailed in the relevant job description
  • Understand and abide by Trust policies.
  • Attend all training required in line with the Statutory and Essential Training (SET) training needs analysis.

If you are interested in applying for this role you must be fit and healthy and not be in the clinically vulnerable groups as stated below:

  • are 70 or older
  • have a lung condition that’s not severe (such as asthma, COPD, emphysema or bronchitis)
  • have heart disease (such as heart failure)
  • have diabetes
  • have chronic kidney disease
  • have liver disease (such as hepatitis)
  • have a condition affecting the brain or nerves (such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis or cerebral palsy)
  • have a condition that means they have a high risk of getting infections
  • are taking medicine that can affect the immune system (such as low doses of steroids)
  • are very obese (a BMI of 40 or above)
  • are pregnant

People who are at high risk are people who:

  • have had an organ transplant
  • are having chemotherapy or antibody treatment for cancer, including immunotherapy
  • are having an intense course of radiotherapy (radical radiotherapy) for lung cancer
  • are having targeted cancer treatments that can affect the immune system (such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors)
  • have had a bone marrow or stem cell transplant in the past six months, or are still taking immunosuppressant medicine
  • have been told by a doctor they have a severe lung condition (such as cystic fibrosis, severe asthma or severe COPD)
  • have a condition that means they have a high risk of getting infections (such as SCID or sickle cell)
  • are taking medicine that makes them much more likely to get infections (such as high doses of steroids or immunosuppressant medicine)
  • have a serious heart condition and are pregnant

Volunteers are a vital part of Team DBTH and so we have to appoint volunteers with all possible care and attention. There is a simple application form, two references are always required, a basic medical questionnaire, a meeting with the Voluntary Services Manager and clearance through the Criminal Records Bureau is needed. We arrange all this, so don’t worry about the process.
