During February, patients in Doncaster will be able to see a GP or nurse in Doncaster at a different location to their normal local practice.
Between 12 and 27 February, GPs and nurses will take to the road and provide extra appointments on board the local health bus.
The final stop for the bus will be:
- Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 February, Mexborough Market Place, 9am to 4:30pm
These appointments on board the health bus are in addition to those offered by the More Choice, More Appointments service, where 160 extra hours of additional appointment time is available at one of five locations across Doncaster.
The health bus will not only provide a base for these mobile appointments, it will also help advertise across the borough that extra appointments are available at a number of practices all year round.
Laura Sherburn, Chief Executive, Primary Care Doncaster said: “The idea behind using the health bus came about as a result of trying new ways to provide GP and nurse appointments for patients in Doncaster.
“Whilst this way of providing appointments will only be available during February, it’s another way of responding to what local people are asking for; to be able to see a GP or nurse at a time to suit them. These additional appointments are available for all registered patients in Doncaster, on top of appointments available at local practices.”
Dr David Crichton, local GP and Clinical Chair of NHS Doncaster CCG said: “It’s great to see this innovative move to trial new ways of providing extra GP and nurse appointments at various locations in Doncaster.
“Across the country, we know there is an increasing demand on local practices and the need for extra GP and nurse appointments. So using the health bus at key locations in Doncaster will help patients to access GP and nurse appointments, as and when they need them.
