Health and social care careers event to be held at Bassetlaw Hospital

On Thursday 21 March, Bassetlaw Hospital will host a careers event for those wishing to pursue a role within health and social care.

Organised by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH), Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Foundation Trust (RDaSH) and Sheffield Hallam University, the event is open to all.

Attendees will have the opportunity to find out about the different types of roles on offer within the local NHS, with healthcare professionals on-hand to answer questions, provide information and explain what career paths can follow, once qualified.

Professions which will be represented include:

  • Nursing and Midwifery
  • Social Work
  • Operating Department Practice
  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Radiography

Karen Barnard, Director of People and Organisational Development, said: “Career events such as this are a fantastic opportunity for young people, and those looking for a change of profession, to come along and see what we have to offer in health and social care. As a teaching hospital, we pride ourselves on helping local people take those first, all-important, steps towards a fulfilling career with the NHS.  If you, or a friend or relative, wishes to work within healthcare, please come along and see what we have to offer.”

Alongside an interactive area to explore the various health and social careers on offer, representatives from the NHS, Sheffield Hallam University, The University of Sheffield, Student Finance England and local colleges will also speak about the following topics:

  • Work experience opportunities and apprenticeships
  • Admissions support for university
  • College options
  • Finance support

Belle Fletcher, Senior Schools and Colleges Engagement Officer at Sheffield Hallam University, said: “This event is a great opportunity to continue our partnership work with the Trusts, as they are such an integral element of the courses here at Sheffield Hallam. Having an event within a hospital environment really showcases the careers and opportunities available locally for school and college students as well as the general public. Having a wide range of information and support available will hopefully give all attendees an idea about the types of professions available and the steps to get to their chosen career.”

The event will take place from 4.30pm to 6pm on Thursday 21 March at The Hub within Bassetlaw Hospital.
