International Women’s Day 2021 profile: Christine White

Monday was International Women’s Day and to mark the occasion we have been asking our female colleagues about themselves. You may be surprised by their answers!

Christine White, Senior People Business Partner

Tell us about your journey into the NHS and what you would do differently, if anything?

I first worked as an Outpatient Receptionist at the Northern General Hospital, then as an HR Officer at Sheffield PCTs and from there I joined DBTH in 2006 as an HR Advisor and now I am a Senior People Business Partner.  I love working in an environment where our efforts are focused on putting patients and people at the centre of what we do.  The only thing I would do differently is to recognise the value that I bring to the table earlier on in my career.

If you were stuck in a lift with anybody who would it be and why?

Tina Turner because she would keep me calm with her meditating chants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOsr_ZOi-Jo

Your most inspirational female icon, past or present?

Munroe Bergdof who is a transgender activist.  She is radical, brave and a pioneering change maker in our society for the benefit of all gender identities.

What is your favourite food and most disliked, and why?

Jamaican jerk chicken – the spicier the better! For dislike, baked beans, everything about them makes me wretch

Do you have any phobias

I dislike travelling when I am not in control of the vehicle and I am not a fan of creatures with more than 4 legs.

What did you want to be when you were younger?

A cameraman for TV and films – as a kid growing up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, lots of job titles had ‘man’ in them!

Tell us something funny about yourself

Once, I received a Christmas card from my local Chinese takeaway for being such a loyal customer!!

Chris is the vice chair of the DBTH LGBT staff network, Chair of the Board for a social enterprise called Andro and Eve which celebrates queer culture and a trustee of a charity called Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation and most importantly a mum. Happy Mothers Day Chris!
