Hospital workers at DBTH celebrated their annual awards event at the Doncaster Dome last month, with more than 13 winners named for their incredible work and achievements.
The Star Awards is part of the Trust’s Staff Awards and Recognition Scheme, offering the opportunity to recognise and congratulate all the diverse and amazing contributions of individuals and teams across DBTH. The Wellbeing Champion award recognises individuals who go above and beyond to foster a culture of care and support within their area. This year the award was presented to Scott Brock, Building Maintenance Assistant in the Trust’s Estates and Facilities Department, for his dedication to enhancing the wellbeing support for his colleagues in the Estates and Facilities (E&F) department.
Since starting to support the Trust’s Health and Wellbeing Team in a volunteer wellbeing advocacy role for his department 12 months ago, Scott has been a beacon of compassion, checking in with colleagues and introducing a range of initiatives aimed at promoting health and wellness.

One of Scott’s valued wellbeing initiatives within his area has been the introduction of wellbeing trolleys, encouraging colleagues to take a moment to check in with their team and enjoy a well-stocked refreshment station. This has encouraged members of his department to practise their wellbeing and has fostered an increasingly compassionate culture in which colleague’s feel a sense of belonging.
Scott has also designed wellbeing boards throughout the Esates and Facilities department, sharing valuable information on health and wellbeing initiatives, useful resources and promoting healthy lifestyles. As part of this work, Scott has also been proactive in gaining feedback, creating a suggestion box to enable colleagues to actively participate in the health and wellbeing of their teams.
Notably, Scott has demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity by becoming the Trust’s first-ever male advocate to undergo Menopause Advocacy training at DBTH. Recognising the importance of being able to support both male and female colleagues within the department, Scott is now a Menopause Advocate and works to support colleagues going through the menopause or who are interested in learning more. Scott’s initiative to undertake this training reflects his dedication to supporting all his colleagues by becoming a role model for those seeking support and advice without judgement or stigma.

Scott, reflecting on his journey as a Wellbeing Champion, shared: “I have really enjoyed becoming a wellbeing champion and I have learned a lot along the way. I am shocked to have won the award, and would like to say thank you for all the support from the Wellbeing Team and my department to enable me to do this. I’m particularly proud to have completed the menopause advocacy training, and I think more male colleagues should do the same.”
Scott’s positive approach and work ethic have played a pivotal role in the success of the Estates team’s health and wellbeing program. His enthusiasm and passion for the role of Wellbeing Champion have been a driving force behind the team’s achievements and organising the visits from therapy pets and organisations such as Andy’s Man Club has received lots of positive feedback from his colleagues.
Howard Timms, Acting Director of Operational Estates and Facilities at DBTH, said: “Scott’s dedication to promoting the health and wellbeing of our colleagues in the Estates and Facilities department has been exemplary. His passion for creating a positive and supportive work environment has had a huge impact and really shows his commitment to supporting everyone. We are proud to have him as a member of our team, and his Wellbeing Champion award is a well-deserved recognition of all his hard work.”

This year’s highly anticipated awards evening was hosted by Heart Radio DJ, David ‘Dixie’ Dixon with over 500 healthcare professionals from across the Trust in attendance to celebrate the exceptional dedication of colleagues throughout the past 12 months.
