A tattoo studio in Askern has raised £750 for Doncaster Royal Infirmary’s Chatsfield Suite, by inking over 30 remembrance tattoos for customers.
Dave and Sam Stewart decided to hold the fundraising day in memory of family member, Linda Johnson, who sadly passed away from cancer in January 2014. Having received care and treatment at the Chatsfield Suite throughout her illness, the couple hit upon the creative way to raise funds as a way to say thanks to the team.
Creating tattoos in the style of the cancer remembrance ribbon, Dave hosted the fundraising event on Saturday 18 February, at his studio. By the end of the day, over 30 ribbons had been inked, each taking around 15 minutes to complete. Costing between £10 and £20, the fee for each tattoo was given to the fundraise, with an additional £200 contributed by friends and family.
Dave said: “When we decided to hold this event, we thought it was a great way to give something back to the Chatsfield Suite team who looked after Sam’s aunt, Linda, throughout her illness. It took me by surprise just how many people turned up to take part, and by the end of the day we actually ran out of supplies!
“Sam and I want to thank everyone who got involved and made the event such a success. We met some lovely people and it’s good to know that the money will be going to such a worthy and important service.”
The Chatsfield Suite, based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, provides chemotherapy services for day-case haematology and solid tumour malignancies.
Lara Cunnane-Reay, Ward Manager at the Chatsfield Suite, said: “On behalf of the team I want to thank Dave and Sam for their kind contribution, as well as everyone who took part in this creative fundraising event. This donation will be put to good use for the benefit of our patients.”
Due to the success of the fundraise and demand for the inked tribute, Dave and Sam intend to run a similar event in February 2018. If you want to get involved in the couple’s next fundraising event check Dave Stewart Tattoos on Facebook for more information.
