The event saw around 250 colleagues vaccinated, with invaluable support from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT), whose presence contributed to the smooth running and positive atmosphere of the day.
The Rapid Relief Team, established by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC) in 2013, is recognised for providing high-quality catering services and practical support to charities, government agencies, and emergency services facing significant challenges.
Whether responding to natural disasters, crises, or public health emergencies, RRT’s volunteers adapt to meet the specific needs of each situation, bringing hope and relief through their compassionate work.
At the ‘Big Jab’ event, RRT volunteers offered refreshments, including teas, coffees, and Krispy Kreme donuts, while also distributing ‘relief packs’ – specially prepared bags containing toiletries – to colleagues attending for their vaccination.
Surplus supplies from the event were donated to colleagues in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Emergency Department, ensuring additional frontline workers benefitted from their generosity.
Zoe Lintin, Chief People Officer at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said: “We are deeply appreciative of the Rapid Relief Team for their generous support during this flu vaccination event. Their volunteers helped create a great environment, and the refreshments and relief packs were a much-appreciated gesture.
“I would also like to recognise our Occupational Health team for administering the vaccinations and the Health and Wellbeing Team for coordinating the day so efficiently. Together, these efforts have ensured a successful event and will help protect our colleagues and patients throughout the winter.”
A spokesperson for the Rapid Relief Team commented: “It was an honour for us to assist Doncaster Royal Infirmary in this important initiative. Supporting those on the frontlines of healthcare aligns with our mission, and we are pleased to have contributed to the wellbeing of staff as they received their flu vaccinations. We hope our small gesture of support helped make the event a positive and reassuring experience for all involved.”
The flu vaccination plays a vital role in protecting healthcare professionals and patients alike. By reducing the risk of flu transmission within hospital settings, flu vaccinations help prevent additional pressures on the healthcare system, particularly during the winter months when both flu and other respiratory illnesses are more prevalent.
