DBTH celebrates colleagues at annual Star Awards

Colleagues at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) celebrated their annual Star Awards on Thursday 8 October, with more than 400 people attending the event at the Doncaster Dome.

Presented by Harry and Tia from The Don, the evening followed more than 500 nominations from colleagues and members of the public, recognising individuals and teams for their work across Bassetlaw Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital and the Trust’s external clinics.

The celebration was made possible by the generous support of Apira, Darwin Group, North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative, Holt Doctors, IHP Vinci, Pulse Outdoor Media, SHJ, NHS Professionals, Doncaster College, Capsticks, Pulse Workforce Solutions and DBTH Charity. The Trust extends a huge thank you to all its sponsors for helping to fund the evening.

Jennifer Green received the Star of the Year award, while Chatsfield Suite was named Medical and Clinical Team of the Year and Medical Records won Non-clinical Team of the Year. Awards also recognised colleagues’ contributions to teaching, fundraising and sustainability, alongside the support they give patients and one another.

Mark Bailey, Chair of the Board at DBTH, said: “A huge well done to this year’s winners and everyone who was nominated. Being put forward by a colleague or a member of the public is something to be proud of. It means someone has noticed what you do, appreciated it and taken the time to say thank you.

“The nominations told us so much about the people working across our hospitals. There were examples of excellent patient care, colleagues helping each other and people going out of their way to make things better. It was a pleasure to celebrate that together.

“Thank you to everyone who submitted a nomination, and to our sponsors for helping make the evening possible.”

Mark presented the Chair’s Award to the Specialist Palliative Care, Bereavement and Chaplaincy Team, recognising their compassion towards patients and families at some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Nominations described colleagues spending hours with frightened patients and those approaching the end of their lives, offering comfort and reassurance. The team also helped a patient fulfil their wish to marry their partner in the hospital chapel, creating a special moment for them and their family.

Mark added: “What stood out was the time this team gives to people. Listening, understanding what matters to someone and being there for them can make an enormous difference. This award recognises that kindness and the support they provide to patients, families and colleagues.”
