We have an exciting opportunity for a Customer Level 2 Apprentice to work within the Clinical Coding Department.  This is a customer focused role that requires an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who can remain calm in a busy environment.

Clinically coded data is fundamental in supporting the Trust’s objectives of providing the highest quality clinical care.  Trust income is reliant on accurate and timely clinically coded data.

Main duties of the job

You will work at part of a team, assisting the coders by locating and retrieving medical records using the Hospital Tracker System.  This is a highly physical job, which entails transporting a trolley full of medical records around the hospital site several times in a shift. You will also be required to take requests for medical records and undertake general clerical duties.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who is methodical in their approach to work, is able to work within a team and independently, possessing excellent keyboard skills and experience in using computer software packages.  You will be comfortable working to prescribed deadlines and to producing work of a high standard. Good verbal and written communication skills and a flexible approach to work are essential prerequisites of the post.  You will have a friendly and helpful manner and be committed to undertake and complete learning activities which form part of the role and apprenticeship qualifications.

The Clinical Coding Team at Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust comprises of a Clinical Coding Manager, an Assistant Clinical Coding Manager, a Clinical Coding Training Manager, a Clinical Coding Data Quality Systems Manager, a Clinical Coding Approved Auditor, 3 Team Leaders, 16 Clinical Coders and 3 Clerical Support, across 3 sites.

The post will be primarily based at Bassetlaw Hospital but may require operational working across all Trust sites.

The coding department offers a flexi-time scheme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Demonstrate the Trust’s agreed behaviours and values within the team.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and other departments.
  • Ensure that processes are carried out in accordance with documented procedures, protocols and schedules and deadlines.
  • Provide general clerical and administrative support across a range of duties.
  • Safe use of office equipment e.g. photocopier, scanner, fax machine.
  • Resolve routine queries and enquiries from employees and managers.
  • Undertake data input on a range of IT systems.
  • Electronic diary management and arranging venues.
  • Assist colleagues in preparations for meetings and training.
  • Answer telephone enquiries, recording accurate messages accordingly.
  • Help maintain effective and efficient office systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work
  • Assist with the preparation of set up training facilities, setting out rooms, equipment and materials as required.
  • To provide appropriate reception duties for the department.
  • Throughout the training period the post holder will be expected to complete all educational and training as required.
  • Undertake any other reasonable general/clerical duties commensurate with this role.
