Nominate your hospital stars!

After last year’s sell-out event and a record number of nominations, we are thrilled to announce the return of the DBTH Star Awards in 2024!

These awards give us a chance to celebrate our exceptional colleagues and teams who exemplify our We Care values and the DBTH Way, supporting and delivering compassionate and exceptional care to our communities over the past 12 months.

Nominating has never been easier, with a number of categories listed below, each with a handy link to follow.

When highlighting a colleague, we don’t need War and Peace, instead, in as many words as you think are necessary, highlight why a specific colleague, team, or service, deserve the Star treatment this October.

Here are the categories, all aligned with the DBTH Way and our We Care values (note, everyone can nominate and be nominated):

Patient Champion

This award is for a member of DBTH who is caring and compassionate, does everything they can for our patients and takes pride in their work. The winner of this award will be a someone who champions our patients having the best possible experience and uses their initiative to help achieve this.

Teaching Hospital Award

This award recognises someone who is an advocate for development and  goes above and beyond to support their colleagues by either creating or supporting opportunities for career development or research. It will be awarded to someone who is an exceptional teacher or mentor but it is not limited to those in educator roles. You can nominate anyone who performs a supportive role to you and your learning.

Inclusion Champion

A compassionate culture based on inclusion and belonging is created by individual actions of all of us. This award recognises an individual who has contributed towards this in an exceptional way. As examples, this could be by changing ways of working to support or include colleagues or patients from minority and under-represented groups or taking action to positively raise awareness and celebrate the diversity of our workforce.

Bank/agency Star

Our services at DBTH are supported by many regular Bank (NHS Professionals) and Agency workers who are very much part of our team. This award will recognise one of our agency colleagues who goes above and beyond when they work at DBTH.

Sustainability champion

This award will recognise someone who has implemented or put forward an idea for a sustainability initiative to help us make a greener DBTH. This could be something that aligns directly with our Green Plan or something small that is making a difference in their area – we’re looking for individuals who care about the planet and care about DBTH.

Wellbeing Champion

This award will recognise an individual who makes an effort to check in with their colleagues and focusses on improving health and wellbeing. This could be anything from checking in with you during a challenging time, bringing positivity to your outlook or offering support when things get tough. It could be someone who organises wellbeing activities or offers support to their team when they are in need. Note: you do not need to be an official Wellbeing Champion to be nominated for this award.

Unsung Hero

Our colleagues in non-patient-facing roles provide services which are essential to keeping our clinical services operating and providing high quality care. This award recognises someone who provides an excellent service, often that patients or the public won’t see. The focus is on support colleagues who work in an area behind the scenes, whether it’s in administration, services, estates or laboratory.

Change Champion

This award will recognise an individual or a team who have transformed the  way we work or how a service is provided, innovated, or made a change for the better in their area. This could be anything from improving care outcomes, becoming more efficient, financial savings and initiatives to boost morale, to Capital Development projects to improve our environment and the places we deliver care. It will be awarded to someone who lives the Trust’s leadership values and behaviours by pro-actively listening to their colleagues, using feedback as a driver for change.

Rising Star

This award is aimed at apprentices, students and individuals who are new to a role, or someone with ambition to try something new. This award will recognise someone who is dedicated to learning, be it through traditional educational courses or other learning through developing new skills.

Fundraising Champion

This award is a special way to thank someone who has dedicated their time and efforts into fundraising for Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital’s Charity. It will recognise the work of someone who has planned an event, taken on a physical challenge or gone to great lengths to procure support for our charity and, ultimately, our patients.

Admin Team of the Year

This is a team award which will recognise excellence from a team which does not directly provide patient care but provides and administrative service to support our colleagues and patient services.

Support Team of the Year

This team award will be presented to a team who work all over our Trust sites providing support to our clinical teams. It will recognise excellence from teams who provide technical support, patient facing services which are not clinical, and maintenance support.

Medical and Clinical Team of the Year

The medical and clinical team of the year will be a high performing team (or a team on an improvement journey) who work well together as a team to deliver high quality care to our patients.
