This visit coincided with the Labour Party’s manifesto launch, highlighting their election pledge to increase weekly NHS appointments by 40,000, including evening and weekend slots.
The delegation was welcomed by Richard Parker OBE and Suzy Brain England OBE, Chief Executive and Chair of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals respectively, along with senior clinical leaders at the Trust.
During their visit, the group toured the Theatre Unit and discussed current operational capabilities and the challenges colleagues face. They also visited Ward B5, where they engaged with the team about the realities of delivering frontline care and conversed with patients.
Speaking after the event, Richard Parker OBE, Chief Executive, said: “We look forward to working closely with the Government to ensure that the people of Doncaster and Bassetlaw receive the very best from our local NHS services.”
At present colleagues are overseeing the development of the Bassetlaw Emergency Care Village, which once complete later this summer, will see the co-location of emergency, some inpatient, and paediatric services all under one roof.
The Trust, which operates Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital and Montagu Hospital, cares for an average of 500,000 outpatients, 125,000 inpatients and 175,000 emergency admissions every single year. It is one of only a small number of teaching hospitals in Yorkshire and Humber and trains about one third of all medical and clinical professionals within the region.
