BaBi’s 1st Teddy Bear’s Picnic 2023

The first anniversary of the BaBi-D research study was celebrated by holding a ‘BaBi’s 1st Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ event!

During the May half-term holidays, and in conjunction with Doncaster’s first Remake Learning Festival, the Born and Bred in Doncaster research programme held four celebratory events in Family Hubs around the Doncaster area. There was a fantastic response to the invitation from our local community, the weather was on our side and there were plenty of smiles from the little ones!

Children brought their teddies and their carers along for a fun packed session, with many activities aimed at the BaBi-D research study. Parents and carers were asked the question ‘What does health mean to you?’, and answers were collected to help form the direction of future research areas. Grown-ups were also invited to select their top research priority, based on what is most important to them. Families joined in a collaboration of a unique illustration, the BaBi Tree, a bare tree painted on a large canvas, and families used fingerpaints to add leaves to the tree. The BaBi Tree travelled between hubs and collected leaves at each location, allowing the families who attended to contribute to a visual representation of the study.

For the young ones, there was a storytime with the Research Rhino, Ears, her baby Rhino, Jade, and BaBi Bear, a polar bear adopted by our team. Children were asked to help name BaBi Bear.  Families brought along their own soft toys to join in and soft drinks and snacks were provided.

The venues were based in Family Hubs within Armthorpe, Bentley, Denaby and Doncaster Central.

Here are some of the pictures captured on the day, see if you can spot a familiar face!
