What is a PIFU appointment?

PIFU stands for Patient Initiated Follow Up. Patient initiated follow up puts you in direct control of your care, following initial treatment. Here the Physiologists will:

  • Discuss any concerns with you regarding either your CPAP machine or treatment
  • Give you a set period of time to contact the service. After this period, the department will contact you for review.

When should I contact the service?

  • If you have symptoms of daytime sleepiness even though you are using your CPAP
  • You have snoring even though you are using your CPAP
  • You require replacement consumables, such as mask, head straps, filters or tubing.
  • You have an illness or accident that prevents you from using your CPAP for more than a few days.

Who do I contact for replacement parts or with enquiries?

Doncaster patients please email dbth.cpapdoncaster@nhs.net   or call 01302 648167

Bassetlaw patients please email dbth.cpapbassetlaw@nhs.net  or call 01909 572761

Who do I call to arrange an appointment to be seen?

Please contact the cardiorespiratory team and ask for a patient initiated follow up appointment. An appointment will be made within 4 weeks of contact. This appointment may be a face to face or a telephone appointment, depending on the nature of your concern and the type of appointment you prefer. If the request relates to equipment failure, this will be within 2 working days.

  • Doncaster patients please call 01302 648167
  • Bassetlaw patients please call 01909 572761
