As a Trust, we are governed by a Board of Directors and overseen by a Council of Governors, working together to ensure the Trust is safe, effective, well-led and accountable to the public we serve.
We are a Foundation Trust, which means we have greater independence from central government and stronger links with local people through our members and governors.
Our work is guided by Healthier Together – the Trust’s organisational strategy – which sets out our vision (Healthier together: delivering exceptional care for all) and outlines our key priorities: Patients, People, Partnerships and Pounds. It also includes longer-term ambitions around tackling health inequalities, digital transformation, sustainability, and strengthening education and research.
These priorities are shaped by national policy, including the Fit for the Future: 10-Year Health Plan for England, and are delivered through a series of enabling plans and service-level actions across the organisation.
On this page, you can find more information about how the Trust is structured, who leads it, and how decisions are made in line with our strategy, values and responsibilities to the public.
Board of Directors
Our Board of Directors is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Trust and, with input from the Council of Governors, helps shape its future direction.
The Board monitors performance against national, regional and local objectives, and ensures the highest standards of care and service are maintained across our hospitals.
While the Trust is led by the Board of Directors, they remain accountable to the Council of Governors.

Council of Governors
The Council of Governors includes 20 members elected by Trust members, alongside six staff governors, two public governors, and 11 governors nominated by our partner organisations.
Public and staff governors are elected by their respective constituencies, while partner governors are appointed by their organisations.
To contact a member of the Council or for more information, please reach out to the Foundation Trust Office. Find out more, and read meeting minutes here.
